a lot of people dont understand, there is a difference between gracie jiu jitsu and bjj. what the gracies brought to the states is gjj, its strictly for self defense. bjj is the sport version. there is little to no real self defense application in bjj. if u want to learn jj for real fighting then go to a certified gjj school. avoid the bjj schools that emphasize useless techs. like guard passing, gi chokes, jumping guard; basically any competition stuff.
